
A man walking along Highway 168 near Shaver Lake early Sunday morning was hit and killed by a woman who authorities say was driving while intoxicated.
Morgan Brown, 20, of Shaver Lake, was headed westbound on in a 2010 Hyndai Santa Fe around 2:30 a.m. when she struck the 30-year-old man, the California Highway Patrol said.
After hitting the man, Brown drove for another two and a half miles before failing to negotiate a left-hand curve, colliding with a reflective paddle marker, several trees and then driving down a rocky embankment, according to reports.
A newspaper delivery employee found the man lying in the road around 3 a.m.
Brown was discovered standing on the right shoulder of Highway 168 around 7 a.m. by an an ambulance.
After field sobriety tests, Brown was arrested for a DUI causing injury or death with a blood alcohol content in excess of the legal limits and vehicular manslaughter.
