South Valley Train Collision Kills One

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -

UPDATE: A train collided with an SUV early Monday morning that was stuck on train tracks, killing on man.

The California Highway Patrol said the driver and passenger inside of the SUV were brothers who were driving on their way to work in heavy fog. 

The two turned onto a stretch of railroad tracks on Avenue 80, mistaking it for road.

The two men got out of the SUV and unloaded some of the contents inside of the SUV, officials said

But one of the men went back inside of the SUV and that's when he was hit and killed. 

 

ORIGINAL: Officers are investigating a deadly train crash Monday morning in Tulare County.

The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m. near the city of Pixley, just west of Highway 99.

On person has been confirmed dead in the collision, the California Highway Patrol reports.

The train is still on the tracks and the offramp to the Avenue 80 exit is closed, CHP officials said.
