Page County, Va. Sheriff's Office worker plans to use Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship for online degree pursuit with CSU
Orange Beach, AL (PRWEB) January 17, 2013
Wendy Bundy, part-time dispatcher at Page County (Va.) Sheriff’s Office, recently won the Columbia Southern University Hero Behind the Hero Scholarship, which honors the spouses and children of active-duty public safety personnel (firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs and dispatchers) and military men and women.
Bundy, whose husband Christopher Bundy also works at the Sheriff’s Office, will use the scholarship to cover CSU tuition for up to 24 months for one specific online degree program with CSU. The scholarship is awarded six times a year to two individuals each time.
As a current student of CSU, Bundy said she has learned much while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration. When she enrolled in CSU, she wanted a degree to aid her in “pursuing a career as either a magistrate or probation officer. I was mainly looking at magistrate positions when I enrolled in courses at Columbia Southern University. However, when I took ‘Theory and Practices of Law Enforcement,’ I discovered how many other opportunities are available in this field. It was at that moment that I decided that I was on the right track with my current degree.”
Bundy said she loves education and learning. “There are so many other wonderful careers in the world of criminal justice and I want the opportunity to explore a few of them and hopefully find one that I do want to stay in until I can retire.”
She added that she is considering seeking a master’s degree in a similar field, too.
“Getting a college education and finding a good career to follow it have always been high priorities and dreams of mine. I urge others to work equally as hard as I do to reach whatever goals they have,” Bundy said.
CSU offers online associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in various fields including criminal justice, fire science, occupational safety and health, and business administration.
