State Budget Proposal: Lower Deficit Projected Following Tax Hikes

Posted:

For the first time in years, the state's fiscal outlook isn't looking so bleak. Thanks in large part because of voter approved tax hikes.

On Thursday morning, Governor Jerry Brown proposed a 97.5 billion dollar general fund budget for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

The plan addresses a nearly 2 billion dollar deficit and even includes a modest surplus. That surplus is projected in two years if Brown can keep lawmakers in check and hold down spending.

In his announcement, Governor Brown also budgeted 27 million dollars for the states' two veteran homes, one of which is in Fresno.
