Man Arrested In Madera, Says He Was Traveling With Missing Helena Woman

Posted:

HELENA, Mont. (AP and other sources) - Police have arrested a man who says he traveled with a missing Helena woman from Montana and left her outside Madera, Calif. The woman is still presumed missing.

The Independent Record reports that James Alexander Lee is being held by the Madera County authorities.

Lewis and Clark County deputy attorney Lisa Leckie says prosecutors will seek his extradition to face charges of holding a person against her will over an alleged drug deal.

Angelica Melody Gray was last seen Dec. 11. Helena Police Chief Troy McGee says Lee told authorities he dropped Gray off outside the central California city.

The 22-year-old left her 2 children, ages 3 years and 9 months, at the YWCA where she had been staying since May. Gray's truck was left in the YWCA parking lot, but the children's car seats had been taken out and left in the snow. She also left her keys, purse, and cell phone, and was last seen on surveillance video in the area walking away.

Gray's husband Joshua is and has been in the Lewis & Clark County jail after a domestic dispute several months prior where he shot himself during a struggle with police. Angelica was not harmed.

The two children are in the custody of child and family services. Police say the children had been alone all night and eventually knocked on another residents door explaining that they didn't know where their mother had been.

She faces a $50,000 warrant for leaving the state and leaving her children unattended.
