(Fox News) - California Highway Patrol officers are the people many look to when they need help on the roadways. But now they need your help.

"We are looking for highly motivated individuals. People interested in a career in law enforcement who will be able to serve not only CHP but our community," said CHP Officer Daniel Jacowitz.

CHP is hiring statewide with a starting salary of $65 thousand a year.

The agency will begin accepting applications on January 3rd but only for two days.

Some basic requirements:

-- A high school diploma or GED
-- You must be 20 to 35 years old
-- No felony convictions
-- Live in the state or moving here during the process

But that's just the beginning.

"Once you fulfill that minimum requirement and you pass the academy, after 27 weeks you graduate to field training status," said Officer Jacowitz.

San Francisco police are also hiring. They've started accepting applications online for entry-level police officers. You have from now until December 7th to apply.

"We're down about 300 officers from our city charter mandate, and we do have more people planning to retire over the next several years," said San Francisco Police Officer Albie Esparza.

SFPD's starting salary is $88 thousand a year.

The department doesn't have a residency restriction or age limit. But it does have some similar requirements to CHP.

"All we ask is that you are 21 years of age, California driver's license, no felony convictions and at least a high school diploma or equivalent," said Officer Esparza.
