FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Fresno Unified's race for federal grant money for education is over.
In an eleventh hour agreement, FUSD officials and the Fresno Teachers Association signed off on Fresno's Race to the Top grant application earlier this month.
But when the finalists were named Monday, Fresno Unified was not on the list.
According to the Department of Education, 61 finalists were chosen from 372 applications for the nearly $400 million in federal funding.
Only one Valley district -- Lindsay Unified -- made it to the finals.
The awards are expected to be announced before the end of this year.
