Preparing To Power Up Christmas Tree Lane

Two neighborhoods known for their Christmas lights and displays are only a week away from making their lanes sparkle. Next Saturday December 1st they'll power up Christmas Tree Lane in Fresno and Cindy Lane in Clovis. 

Shawn Caglia has been a part of Christmas Tree Lane for the past 27 years. Saturday he was making sure the lights in the trees and that criss–cross the lane were shining brightly.

Van Ness Boulevard has its own power lines to light up the street displays. Caglia says it stretches for four miles. "This is the longest Christmas Tree Lane in the world. It's been in Look Magazine, it's been on the Discovery Channel, it's been in Sunset Magazine."

Up the street Gene and Linda Adams were using a long pole to place ornaments in their tall trees. "You can kind of see how we figure this out. I lift it and she tells me where to put it."

The Adams have lived on the lane for the past 35 years. Christmas Tree Lane has a lot of history in their family. "As kids we came down Christmas Tree Lane and enjoyed it so it's kind of just a continuation of that. The little kid in you that never goes away."

Adams says what he enjoys most is hearing children ooh and ah over their display.

In Clovis, decorators with a master touch are giving a home on Cindy Lane the yuletide look. So why were they hired? "People don't want to hang Christmas lights."

Mike Brophy says Master Touch is a church group that helps people hang lights for a price. The group did three homes Saturday. He says their work is always appreciated. "With the kids it's usually cool and with the adults it's one of these. Laughs."

Cindy Lane is a Clovis Christmas tradition since 1993. Christmas Tree Lane in Fresno opens Saturday night December 1st. The first night it's walking only. The lights power up at 6:00 p.m.
