Special Report: Vets Coming Home, But Still At War

Posted: Updated:
FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

As more local veterans come home from the wars, more and more are getting in trouble with the law.

The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that one in five vets who come home after serving in Iraq or Afghanistan will suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.

KMPH News anchor Nicole Garcia spoke with local vets with PTSD and found that many don't get help until someone else -- whether it's their family or law enforcement -- intervenes. In some cases that intervention comes too late.

If you think you have PTSD, or if you think someone has it, the Department of Veterans Affairs has a free app available. The app is not meant to replace professional help but to help you learn more about symptoms and how to manage them.

For more information, or to download the app, click on the following link: Mobile App: PTSD Coach.
