Police Say Man Killed Estranged Wife, Shot Four Others

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

A gunman opens fire and shoots five people; four survived, but one woman was killed.

It happened late Friday night inside an apartment near the Fresno State campus in northeast Fresno.

Police say they were able to track down and arrest the shooter, identified as 25–year–old Arthur Howlin.

Police say he is the dead woman's estranged husband. His wife was identified as 45–year–old Tina Banks, of Fresno.

The manager of Oasis Apartments complex says Banks didn't live there. "She was a guest of the tenant. The person who did the shooting, nobody knows who he is," said Chris Petersen.

Police aren't releasing a lot of information about what led Howlin to open fire, saying it appears to be a case of domestic violence.

Howlin was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges that include murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and false imprisonment.

This is Fresno's 18th murder of the year.

The four other people who were shot are still in the hospital; police say their injuries are serious.
