FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -
The CHP continues to investigate an early morning crash that left three people dead.
It happened shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 180 near San Mateo. That's east of Mendota.
CHP Officers say a car was going eastbound on the highway when it swerved into the path of an oncoming big rig. Two people in the car were killed.
Officers say the big rig swerved off the road and caught fire.
One person in the big rig was killed. A second person was pulled out and rushed to the hospital. There's no word on that person's condition.
A portion of Highway 180 was closed for several hours. All lanes were reopened by 11 a.m.
Although the cause of the accident is still a mystery, CHP Officers say they did find beer bottles inside the car.
