VISALIA, Calif. (KMPH) -
People looking for a job in the South Valley had about a one in four chance of getting hired Saturday.
Nearly 400 people came out for the Visalia Rawhide job fair.
"I was hoping for mascot, I like to dance, very energetic, like to move around a lot," said Greg Princeton, who was hoping to get hired.
Like many these days, Princeton has been out of work for a while.
"I've been looking for a job for about a year now, it's really hard, really hard," said Princeton.
And it looks like he's got some competition for the mascot opening.
"I thought mascot would be fun, you could relax and be silly, I love working with kids, and kids love mascots," said Kayla Pace, who was hoping to get hired.
More than 380 people were vying for 120 openings.
From food preparers, to cashiers, to ushers, and sales associates the Rawhide was looking for people who could help make a day at the ballpark a good time for Rawhide fans.
"There's really no specific skill requirement...we're basically looking for friendly, smiling faces. People who want to have a good time and are ready to work," said Cody Gray, with the Visalia Rawhide.
This year's job fair crowd was about half the size of last year's. Gray says it's because they did things a little different this year.
"We had people pre–register online, we had about 150 pre–register and 150 walkups," said Gray.
The Rawhide have 70 home games scheduled for this season.
The average pay for the temporary gig – about $8 an hour.
