SHAVER LAKE, Calif. (KMPH) -
David Neal and Melisa Aranda are taking a snow day.
"Just to waste time in the snow. Just to kick around and get cold and build a snowman," Neal said.
"We actually thought it was only going to be maybe an inch, inch–and–a–half. We were kind of actually amazed it was so much snow outside," Aranda said.
It's music to Linda Sinks' ears, who hasn't seen this much snow since last winter.
"You come up here to see the snow and get away from the hustle and bustle. And without the snow, or the heat from the Valley in the summertime, it's pretty snow. And this is what we rely on," she said.
Sinks says her business can double when the weather is right.
"It's the winter wonderland up here. And when it turns up and the trees are all white and the ground is white and covered, it's a beautiful time to come up," Sinks said.
And with snow possible over the next few days, business owners there like Linda hope this storm will turn into their "March Miracle."
"Fantastic to see it. Don't mind shoveling the snow. Don't mind cleaning my car off. Wonderful to see it," Sinks said.
Locals say the winter storm may also help Shaver Lake fill up quicker than expected.
Beginning March 1st, they'll start to plant thousands of fish in the lake to get it ready for the summer.
Linda Sinks is also the vice–president of the Shaver Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Monday night, the Chamber met to discuss how to help local businesses be ready for an influx of visitors expected because of the storm.
