Posted: Updated:
CLOVIS, Calif. (KMPH) -

The Clovis Unified Governing Board has approved the appointment of former Hoover High head football coach Jim O'Brien to Clovis East.

The Valley native and former football player will both teach and coach at the school. He takes over as head football coach in mid-February.

O'Brien replaces Tim Murphy, who resigned as the Timberwolves' coach in November 2011.

O'Brien comes to Clovis East with a successful coaching record that began in 2005 at Buchanan High School as the head JV coach.

During the course of his coaching career, O'Brien has led teams to state rankings and was chosen to coach the City-County All Star Game.

O'Brien will start teaching physical education at the school on February 14, and is already working with his team of assistant coaches to prepare for the school's spring football season.
