FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
Every family member cherishes the moment seeing a loved one in a national spotlight. New York Giants backup quarterback David Carr is living the dream and his little brother Derek couldn't be prouder.
"I've seen him go from the bottom teams of the NFL. Now he's straight to the top and I couldn't be more happy for him."
Derek's brother David is a former All–American quarterback out of Fresno State and the first overall pick in the 2002 NFL draft by Houston.
His brother Derek extended an exclusive invitation to KMPH News to hang out at his Super Bowl party in Fresno.
The current starting quarterback for Fresno State has taken plenty of calls from David as the Super Bowl hype kicked in last Monday. "It's just crazy. He sent me all random types of pictures. Him coming off the airplane, all the people waiting there, him at the hotel. I mean it's just nuts," Derek Carr said.
When Derek's fiancee Heather Neel wasn't working on the Super Bowl fixins, she was trading texts with David's wife Melody. "Melody was sending me pictures earlier of the kids dressed in their cute uniform stuff. His mom and I went shopping earlier to get cute jewelry for the Super Bowl," Neel said.
Derek was the only family member who didn't make the trip to Indianapolis for the big game. "They sent me a picture of their Super Bowl tickets. Actually my Dad did and I was like you're so lucky," Derek said.
There's a reason why Derek didn't travel. Bulldog running back Robbie Rouse told us why. "I've been on him like are you going to the Super Bowl. He couldn't make it cause Derek is do dedicated he wanted to be able to make workouts tomorrow."
The Carr brothers are young men of faith. David is Derek's brother, mentor and inspiration. "It gives me something else to get to. He's done all these things that I've been trying to do. He just put one more out there. He's at the Super Bowl," Derek said.
The achievement list just got longer for Derek. Soon, big brother Dave will be sporting his Super Bowl ring.
