
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Tyler Johnson equaled a career high with 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Fresno State defeated Idaho 65-55 on Thursday night.
Jerry Brown added 14 points and 10 rebounds in helping Fresno State (10-14, 2-6 Western Athletic) end an eight-game losing streak against Idaho.
Kyle Barone had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Vandals (11-11, 4-4), who shot 38.5 percent from the field. Deremy Geiger and Mansa Habeeb added 12 points each.
The Bulldogs led by 16 points at halftime thanks in large part to their 63.6 percent shooting in the first half.
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Fresno State women's basketball team made it seven in a row on Thursday night defeating New Mexico State 79-54 and winning its seventh-straight game.
The Bulldogs (18-4, 7-0 WAC) have won all six Western Athletic Conference games by double digits and won 12-of-22 games this season by 10 or more points. The Aggies came within three points of the `Dogs in the second half, but Fresno State answered with a 27-7 run to seal another win on the road.
"We started off kind of slow and took a lot of quick shots, but we slowed down to our pace," said Moore, who led all scorers on the night. "We expect everyone to come out and play hard. Everyone plays their best game against us."
The Bulldogs are 8-3 away from the Save Mart Center this year.
Fresno State had four Bulldogs score in double figures and the `Dogs shot 40 percent from 2-point range making 12 of 30 treys. Sophomore Ki-Ki Moore leading the way with 18 points. Freshman Madison Parrish added 15 points and four rebounds. Senior Blakely Goldberg had 10 points and junior Rosie Moult rounded out the Bulldogs in double figures with 13 points.
Defensively, the Bulldogs forced 36 turnovers that resulted in 33 points for the `Dogs. Fresno State recorded 17 steals to the Aggies eight on the night. Goldberg led the team with five steals.
"We just have to come out and play our game and we're fine," said Moore
The Bulldogs opened the game with an early 5-2 lead allowing the Aggies to score only four points in the first quarter of the game. The Aggies took their first lead with 10 minutes to play in first half and with a 7-1 run pulled ahead by five.
Freshman Alex Sheedy drained a 3-pointer from the left corner of the arc to tie the game with 7:35 left on the clock in the first half. Goldberg followed with a steal and made an easy layup as the `Dogs regained the lead. Sheedy's 3-pointer sparked a 22-6 taking control of the game 32-21 with 2:59 left in the half.
Moult led the team with eight points in the first half. Goldberg finished the first half with four points and four steals.
With the win over the Aggies, Fresno State remains the only undefeated team in WAC play. The Bulldogs face Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Ruston, La. at 5:00 p.m. PT.
"I am looking forward to the next game on our schedule and the atmosphere that everyone keeps talking about," said Moore of playing Louisiana Tech.
