KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KMPH) -
A Peruvian immigrant working in Kings County as a sheep herder is now facing several charges of animal abuse.
The man was spotted and videotaped by nearby neighbors kicking, dragging and flinging lambs into the air.
34-year-old Dario Yachachin is in jail, facing 10 counts of animal abuse.
Kings County animal services helped deputies contact the owner of the sheep, and even removed several dead and injured sheep from the field.
A man who lives nearby says he believes he spotted the man acting strange.
John Robinson said, "When I looked back he was running around in a circle. I don't know how they move sheep, but I figured he was trying to stir them up to get them moving."
Another man who didn't want to give his name, says he didn't know Yachachin had been arrested, but said his friend lived on the property inside a portable trailer.
Neighbors say they're just thankful they caught the suspected abuse on tape.
Yachachin was booked into the Kings County Jail, and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. An immigration hold is also being sought against Yachachin.
