One of the two women's prisons in Chowchilla is changing to a men's prison. CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (KMPH) -
The city of Chowchilla is taking the state to court to fight a big change.
Attorneys for the city will file a lawsuit Friday against the Department of Corrections.
As part of the state's prison realignment plan, the department is planning to convert the women's prison to a men's prison.
City leaders say this will have a significant impact on the community and region.
Mayor Janan Hebert argues the Department of Corrections has left no other option but to sue.
