A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder after a 911 dispatcher told her she was allowed to do whatever was necessary to protect her baby.
According to the Huffington Post, 18-year-old Sarah McKinley killed Justin Martin with a single gunshot wound on New Year's Eve when he forced his way into her home and came at her with a knife.
But that wasn't the first time she encountered him. McKinley told police that Martin dropped by her home on the day of her husband's funeral -- several days before the shooting.
He said he was a neighbor and wanted to say hello. She did not open the door.
Police say Martin returned with another man on December 31 and they tried to break into the home. McKinley called 911.
According to the Huffington Post, the dispatcher told her to do what she needed to do to protect her baby after Martin kicked in the door and charged at her with a knife.
McKinley grabbed her gun and shot Martin before he got to her. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspected accomplice, Dustin Stewart, surrendered to police.
