
Washington Union becomes the first ever Central Section football team to be selected to the State Championships down in Carson, California. Le Grand also will be making the trip to the Home Depot Center.
The (13–0) panthers will take on Campolindo High School from Moraga in the Bay Area on Saturday, at noon, for the Division III State Championship.
Le Grand will represent in Division IV. Taking on Sierra Canyon from Chatsworth, which is in Los Angeles near Simi Valley. Those two kick off on Friday at 4:00.
Bakersfield was left out in Division I.
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State football team held its end of the year awards banquet on Sunday, announcing the 2011 outstanding player awards.
Junior running back Robbie Rouse was named the teams Most Valuable Player. Rouse ran for 13 touchdowns and he led the WAC and ranked seventh nationally with 1,549 yards in 2011, the third-most in a season in school history.
Sophomore Jeremiah Toma received the Most Inspiration award while Zak Hill and Bryce Harris were the recipients of the Director's Academic Award. Sophomore linebacker Patrick Su'a was named the Special Team's Player of the Year.
The teams captains for the season were Derek Carr (offense), Toma (defense) and Su'a (special teams).
Defensively, the Most Valuable Lineman award went to senior Logan Harrell and the Most Valuable Back award was given to Travis Brown.
On the other side of the ball, senior Bryce Harris was awarded as the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman and Rouse was named the Most Valuable Back.
The Don Duncan Over Achiever Award went to junior defensive end Tristan Okpalaugo.
The Dick Duncan Scout Team Player of the Year Awards went to Davante Adams (offense) and Jaamal Rose (defense).
