Title Time! Clovis North, Kingsburg, Washington Crowned Champions

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

Welcome to the season finale of Fox Football Friday, the championship night edition.

Four Valley high school titles were on the line. Three of the games were in Bakersfield, home of all those oil wells and, at times, some slippery officiating.

The Bullard Knights were hoping for a clean game against undefeated Bakersfield in Division I.

Demetrius Warren broke off a couple of nice runs on Bullard's first possession. That would lead to an early field goal by Shawn Kuehter, as Bullard took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. But it was all Drillers from that point on.

Running the veer option offense, they took their first lead when Derrick Vickers took the pitch and found the end zone for the touchdown to make it 7-3.

Then in the second quarter, it was receiver Kevin Hayes with the catch of the touchdown pass from Chris Hannibal...part of 38 unanswered points for the Drillers.

And Bakersfield would roll to the school's 35th Valley championship, dominating Bullard, 38-3

The Division II title game was also in the Bakersfield area. Clovis North, under first year head coach Cory Hall, at Garces.

In just their third year of varsity football, the Broncos had a 14-7 lead and were looking for more when Donte Whittle could not find the handle on a sure touchdown pass from Christian Rossi.

Clovis North had another chance, and this time made the play, as Rossi's pass was caught in the end zone by David Wells for an apparent touchdown. Unfortunately it was called back by a penalty, but the Broncos did not get discouraged.

Persistence paid off as Trent Barnes broke off a 30-yard touchdown run for the deciding score.

In just that first year of varsity football, Clovis North wins the school's first Valley championship, knocking off Garces in the title game, 28-19.

The only game in the Fresno area had unbeaten Washington Union at home against Wasco. And the Panthers, with their lofty 12-0 record, put on a show.

A big game for quarterback Chris Cain, finding open receivers all night long while moving the ball up and down the field. The Panthers were already up 28-6 in the third quarter when the visiting Tigers made a little noise. Darius Moore takes it in for the touchdown, and Wasco was dreaming of a miracle comeback.

But the Panthers would have none of that, taking advantage of the fumble on a scoop and score play for Shane McCurley, in for the touchdown. And the defense shut the door the rest of the way.

Washington Union caps an unbeaten season, routing Wasco for a second straight Valley title, 55-12. The Panthers have hopes of reaching one of those state championship games in Southern California.

The final game of the night had Kingsburg winning a shootout at previously unbeaten Ridgeview for a three-peat, 41-34.

The Vikings take their third straight Valley title on their fourth straight trip to the final game.
