FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -
"We have to care about our kids," said Andy Jennings, the father of former Bulldog, Adam Jennings, who attended Pat Hill's last news conference at Fresno State on Monday.
He couldn't hold back his emotions, yelling, "Let him finish his contract now, let him," as he received a quick hug from Hill.
"We have to keep him here, let him finish his contract. This year, we understand. Sometimes it's not about winning, but it's about how these kids move on with their degree and masters," said Jennings.
But many Bulldog fans wanted more.
"Fresno State football became stagnant, it's all about wins and losses," said Anthony Reta, a fan and patron at Dog House Grill.
But fans still respect Coach Hill.
"Pat did a great job here, I think we should all be proud of him," said Reta.
"I thought he handled it like a real man should. He said what was on his mind and in his heart, got it off his chest, ended it pretty well, I thought," said Julian Delacruz, a Bulldog football fan.
"Sorry to hear he had to leave, he was a good coach. He put it all in, 15 years. We're going to miss him," said Michael Cureton, a Bulldog fan.
In the end - growing college players into men is one thing. Winning, is another.
"I just want to bring it back to prominence, I want to get to where Boise State is, I want to be in the BCS, just want to get back to the winning tradition that Fresno State is all about," said Reta.
According to the university, because of the team's recent losing trend, over the last six years Fresno State has seen a 42% decline in season ticket sales, and a 25% drop in ticket revenue.
