Fidgeting in the Cold Waiting for Black Friday

CLOVIS, Calif. (KMPH) -

Toys 'R Us in Clovis kicked off the holiday shopping season Thanksgiving evening at 9:00 p.m. The first person in line got there 12 hours in advance. The line at Toys 'R Us wasn't that long at 7:00 Thursday night. But for the people who had been waiting for hours, confidence was high because each had a game plan.

Carmen Solorzano teamed with her husband Candado. "He's standing in line for a notebook for my kids. I'm actually gonna go to Old Navy and wait in that line."

This young lady killed time by circling things on her wish list in the Toy's R Us ad from the newspaper. Betty Lawrence worked Thanksgiving then got in line. Her mom dropped by with a warm dinner. "We're here for basketball hoop and the power wheels, portable DVD players, the dinosaurs, nap book."

Judging by the length of the line...no problem. At the Target store at Willow and Herndon, Shawn Johnson was first to arrive at 3:00 Wednesday afternoon. He wants a flat screen TV and an X–Box. During his overnighter, he heard noises he didn't expect. "You got street sweepers, employees coming in and out. Also there's people coming up and down the street yelling 'Black Friday, Black Friday.' It's a great experience."

If you think the Target line was long, how about the line stretching from the front of Best Buy in the same shopping center? It goes all the way to the side of the building. The sign says a lot of no's. No tents, BBQ's sleeping bags, chained chairs. But everyone in line seems comfortable.

Chanel Rosales took her place in line on Tuesday evening at 9:00. "We had tents at the beginning but they told us we had to take them down. So they said we couldn't have any sleeping bags but we have our air mattress. So it worked out. And we kept warm."

Mary wants a flat screen and an X–Box. Her 15 year old son just wanted to sleep. Most people that we talked to in line have their eyes on electronics. They want flat screens, tablets the X–Box and Play Station 3.
