Talking with teens about dating and sexuality can be very difficult for parents. Marriage and family therapist Paul Mavrogeorge shares tips on how you can start that conversation.

Teens and dating:

• Define clear terms for dating
• Be clear about expectations
• Help teens keep healthy limits with relationships
• Be prepared to help teens end relationships
• Educate teens on abusive relationships

Talking with teens about sexuality:

• Use clear and appropriate terms
• Educate teens about long term impact of sexuality
• Help teens learn choice and refusal skills
• Be aware of too close too soon
• Be sure to assist sexually active teens to engage in safer sex
