The Fresno County District Attorney has filed charges against a woman accused of buying alcohol for the teen driver involved in last year's Greyhound bus crash that killed six people and left 22 others injured.
Investigators say 22-year-old Michelle Kay Cole bought alcoholic drinks for 18-year-old Sylvia Garay, the woman driving the SUV that flipped over on Highway 99 near McKinley Avenue in Central Fresno. According to the CHP, this set off the string of tragedies.
KMPH News has learned Cole was cited Monday. She is scheduled to appear in court next month. If found guilty, Cole faces a maximum of one year in prison.
According to a report released by the Highway Patrol earlier this month, Garay had a blood alcohol level between 0.11 and 0.14. She was killed when the bus crashed into her overturned SUV.
The report found the bus driver, 57-year-old James Jewett, was not at fault and was not speeding. He was also killed.
