LOS ANGELES (AP) - A San Bernardino County man who described himself as a spiritual healer has been sentenced to nine years in state prison for sexually assaulting a woman who visited his makeshift office. The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says Jose Romulo Felix was also ordered to register as a sex offender. The 42-year-old Victorville resident pleaded no contest July 1 to rape and sexual battery by fraud.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Work crews have stopped the last of the water gushing from a 30-inch pipe near the University of California, Los Angeles some 30 hours after it burst. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokesman Albert Rodriguez said the pipe was shut off completely last night. He says workers had a giant inflatable plug at the ready to stop the flow, but it wasn't needed.

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (AP) -- An Orange County packaged-food company is voluntarily recalling several products over fears of possible botulism contamination. The California Department of Public Health is warning consumers to avoid some products from San Clemente-based VR Green Farms. Officials determined two botulism infection cases might be tied to the company's pine nut basil pesto.

PORT HUENEME, Calif. (AP) - A dead 40-foot whale has washed into the harbor at the Port Hueneme (wy-NEE'-mee) naval base. Scientists are trying to determine what killed the animal, apparently an endangered finback whale. The Ventura County Star reports the carcass has been secured to a wharf. After scientists take tissue samples it will be towed out to sea.
