LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) - LA County prosecutors say a 31-year-old man whose pit bulls mauled a jogger to death was not just negligent but knew that his animals could endanger someone's life. The LA Times reports that in an unusual murder trial prosecutors presented evidence that Alex Jackson's dogs were involved in at least seven other altercations in the 18 months before the 2013 attack on 63-year-old Pamela Devitt in the desert town of Littlerock. The jury is in deliberations.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The advocacy group for the adult film industry has called for an industrywide production moratorium after a performer tested positive for HIV. The Free Speech Coalition says the performer is undergoing additional tests to confirm the diagnosis, but they are calling for the production halt in an abundance of caution.

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A top federal water official says several myths stand in the way of broad agreements needed to deal with rising demand for water in the drought-stricken and "over-allocated" Colorado River basin. Assistant Secretary of the Interior Anne Castle told a conference today in Las Vegas there's no one-step way to avoid the possibility of cuts in water deliveries to states including Arizona and Nevada in the next few years.

NEW YORK (AP) - Joan Rivers remains in a New York City hospital today, one day after going into cardiac arrest at a doctor's office. Melissa Rivers said yesterday that her mother was resting comfortably. She did not elaborate on the 81-year-old comedian's condition. She offered thanks for an outpouring of "love and support" and asked for continuing thoughts and prayers.
