Aubrey Huff and Buster Posey each hit a two-run homer and Pat Burrell and Juan Uribe (yoo-REE'-bay) also homered as the San Francisco Giants beat San Diego 7-3 last night to pull within one game of the National League West-leading Padres. Elsewhere, the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2. The Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Angels both had yesterday off.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Some 75 Silicon Valley leaders have written an open letter to baseball commissioner Bud Selig, endorsing the Oakland Athletics' potential move to San Jose. The Silicon Valley Leadership Group assembled the two-page letter, designed as a show of unity and corporate might. Signatures include those of such chief executives as Cisco Systems' John Chambers, Yahoo's Carol Bartz and eBay's John Donahoe.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The fiance of Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes says a domestic violence accusation against him is false, and that he has never physically abused her or her family. Gloria Govan made the comments in a statement issued yesterday. Barnes was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence after deputies responded to a disconnected 911 call. Barnes is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 13.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A Sacramento Kings basketball player says he's hurt that someone would paint a swastika on a mural featuring his likeness. Omri Casspi told the Sacramento Bee yesterday it's hurtful to think there are still people who do such things in 2010. Casspi is Jewish and is the only NBA player born in Israel. He says people in Israel are talking about the graffiti that was discovered in downtown Sacramento on Wednesday.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Michael Crabtree's sore neck is much better, he insists he's ready to play after missing the entire preseason -- and says the spat last week with teammate Vernon Davis is long since done. Crabtree is the second-year San Francisco 49ers receiver who will start his first season opener Sunday at Seattle after not joining the team until October last year. That followed Crabtree's 71-day contract stalemate in 2009.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - David Beckham has been activated from the Los Angeles Galaxy's disabled list. The club made the long-awaited move yesterday, so Beckham is now eligible to play in the team's home game against Columbus tomorrow. He tore his left Achilles' tendon in March while playing on loan with AC Milan and had surgery two days later. He returned from watching the World Cup to practice with the Galaxy on Aug. 10.
